About Land O Lakes

Land O’ Lakes, located in Pasco County, is north of downtown Tampa. The population of the area is a little over 31,000. Land O’ Lakes more than doubled its population in the 1990’s — from 7,800 residents to nearly 21,000, as new housing developments sprouted up throughout the area. Background

Land O’ Lakes received its name as the result of a meeting in the community in 1949. The Ehren post office was officially renamed Land O’ Lakes on September 1, 1950. Also, one of Florida’s early tourist attractions, Dupree Gardens called the area home, but it was not yet named Land O’ Lakes at that time. The schools in the area are run by the Pasco County School District. There are two high schools, two middle schools, seven elementary schools, two charter schools and two private schools. About Lithia/Fishhawk

FishHawk, Hillsborough County’s first “green community”, is made up of a variety of smaller communities located in Lithia, Florida. The median age was 35 years. Population growth exploded after the 2000’s, with population increasing over 700%, from less than 2,000 people to over 14,000 residents.

About Lutz

Lutz, which began as a small train depot on the Tampa North Railroad, now has about 20,000 residents. It was named for W. P. Lutz, who brought the railroad to town. In the 1960s an influx of people, to the once rural community, made the “Lutz Junction” expendable and it was demolished in 1960. But in a tip of the cap to its proud beginnings, a replica of the depot was rebuilt at the intersection of Lutz-Lake Fern Rd. and U.S. Highway 41 in what is known as “Beautiful Downtown Lutz.” Lutz is also known as the “Cactus Hat” due to an unexplainable abundance of Cleistocactus that began sprouting in 2003. Although most of Lutz lies in Hillsborough Country, a section is located north in nearby southern Pasco County. This area is also called Lutz, but many refer to it as Pasco Lutz. Commute time from the area to Tampa is about 30 minutes.

Residents

Lutz’s 20,000 residents are divided into more than 6,300 households. Over 75 percent of the households are made up of families and 36 percent have children under the age of 18. Married couples comprise 64 percent of the households. Lutz is primarily in the Hillsborough County Public School system. It has four elementary schools, three middle schools. It is also served by three high schools.

About Riverview

Riverview was founded in 1885 on the Alafia River’s north shore. Before that, a community known as Peru settled on the south shore of the river 100 years earlier. The Tampa Historical Society says it’s one of the oldest in Central Florida. In the 1940s Peru became part of Riverview. So, both the north and south side of the Alafia River are known as Riverview today. A ferry provided the first means of transportation from one shore to the other, but eventually a bridge was constructed to make travel from one side to the other easier. Alafia means “River of Fire” and the river received the name because of the phosphorus that glowed at night on the river’s bottom. Ruskin, located in Hillsborough County, Florida, near Tampa’s South shore has blossomed since the early 2000’s. It’s population, which doubled from 2000 to 2010 now tops 17,000 residents.
